Candidate Filing
FILING PERIOD FOR CITY OFFICES AND LOCATIONS: The filing period for City Offices opens on May 17th and closes at 5:00 p.m. on May 31st. Candidates pay a filing fee of $20.00. Affidavits of Candidacy are filed at the City Clerk’s Office.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR CANDIDATES: Minnesota law states that candidates for state and local offices must be eligible to vote in Minnesota, at least 21 years of age when assuming office, have not filed for another office at the upcoming primary or general elections, and maintained residence in their district for at least 30 days prior to the General Election.
FILINGS FOR SCHOOL BOARD: Filings for School Board will open on August 2nd and close at 5:00 p.m. on close on August 16th.
FOR ELECTION RESULTS YOU WILL BE DIRECTED TO THE OFFICE OF THE MINNESOTA SECRETRY OF STATE. SOUTH ST PAUL CITY OFFICES WILL NOT BE OPEN ON ELECTION NIGHT.

June 24: Absentee Balloting for Primary Begins
July 19: Voter Pre-Registration Closes for Primary Election
August 2: School Board Candidate filing opens
August 8: Primary Election Absentee Voting Ends
August 9: Primary Election
August 16: School Board Candidate filing closes (5:00 pm)
September 23: Absentee Ballot For General Election Begins
November 7: Absentee Ballot Ends for General Election
November 8: General Election Day
