Do you know someone that needs help this fall with getting their yard ready for winter. The South St. Paul City Affairs office is teaming up with the SSP Mayors’ Youth Task Force for the Leaf It to Us Program. They will be accepting nomination forms for senior citizens and/or disabled residents that need help with raking their yards this fall. Up to 10 homeowners in need of help will be selected.
Nomination forms will be accepted thru October 12th. A committee will review the nomination forms and pair the homeowners with South St. Paul CommUNITY teams. The teams will make arrangements with the homeowners to rake their yards in late October or early November.
If you know of a senior citizen and/or a disabled South St. Paul resident that needs help this fall with their yards, complete the nomination form and return to Deb Griffith at the South St. Paul City Hall.

"Why we are the Way We Are" tour includes the sites and stories of the city from the earliest days of the Mdewakanton Dakota Kaposia Village to the boat launch and river trail as well as the Exchange Building. Additional sites include a trip through the stockyards site and a look at the ethnic halls and discussion of the city’s unique neighborhoods over the last 130 years.
Seats are limited and there will only be one tour due to the earlier sunset.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) and Emergency Alert System (EAS) on October 3, 2018. The WEA portion of the test commences at 2:18 p.m. EDT, and the EAS portion follows at 2:20 p.m. EDT.
The WEA system is used to warn the public about dangerous weather, missing children, and other critical situations through alerts on cell phones. It allows customers whose wireless provider participates in WEA and who own a WEA compatible wireless phone to receive geo-targeted alerts of imminent threats to safety in their area through unique tones and vibration. The national WEA test will use the same special tone and vibration. The WEA test message will read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed."

The Planning Commission is a seven-member citizen commission, appointed by the City Council to four-year terms. The Planning Commission advises the City Council on all planning, zoning, and land uses within the community. Duties of the Planning Commission include the review of all development and redevelopment proposals and the enforcement of the Comprehensive Plan.

Get household items fixed for free and learn valuable repair skills at an upcoming Fix-It Clinic.
At Fix-It Clinics, residents bring in small household appliances, clothing, electronics and receive free guided assistance from volunteers with repair skills to disassemble, troubleshoot and fix their items.
Fix-It Clinics teach valuable troubleshooting and basic repair skills, build community connections and reduce the number of repairable objects that are thrown in the trash.

Get your friends and family together for a family Halloween Skate at the Doug Woog Arena on Sunday, October 28th from 4:40 to 6:00 pm. Join the staff from the Doug Woog Arena, the SSP Mayor's Youth Task Force and Wakota Federal Credit Union for a fun evening. This event is FREE to attend.
There will be creepy fun, music, Halloween games, a costume contest (for safety reasons, no masks please, face paint is permitted) and trick or treating. Admittance to the event is FREE, skate rental is $2.00/or canned food items for Neighbors, Inc. (Please note: there is a limited amount of skates available).

Marie Avenue is the place to be on Halloween Night! Join the City of South St. Paul, SSP Businesses, organizations and volunteers for the 17th Annual Great Halloween Get Together. From 5:00 to 7:00 pm, travel the transformed Marie Avenue starting at 7th Avenue to the 4th Avenue and back trick and treating the entire way.
There will be music, games, and treats, lots and lots of treats. SSP businesses, organizations and families are joining the City of South St. Paul in providing a safe Halloween event packed with fun and treats.
