Children's Programs & Services
Children's programThroughout the year, we offer regular and special programming for kids of all ages. During the summer, we have many programs and a reading program to keep your kids excited about reading. Come say hello to the fish, play in the Little Room, visit the rocket ship, and pick out a new load of books, music, and movies to borrow.

Play and Learn
Create a cheery bouquet or arrange a vase of flowers at the Flower and Garden Shop. The Play and Learn Space was funded by a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education using federal funding, Library Services and Technology Act [LS 00-13-0024-13].

Rock, Rattle, and Rhyme Storytime
    Mondays at 6:15pm beginning January 29
Through the use of books, music, and movement children learn social skills, listening comprehension, and the foundations of reading through letters, numbers, rhyming, and vocabulary. For children 0-3 and their caregivers.

Storytime for 2-6s
     Tuesdays at 10:15am beginning January 23
Read, play, sing, talk, and write together with stories and activities to develop early literacy skills for toddlers and preschoolers. Siblings and daycare groups welcome. Ages 2-6.

Stories at Lawshe Memorial Museum
     Tuesday, March 20 at 10:15
The Dakota County Historical Society and South St. Paul Public Library are collaborating for a special storytime series making history come alive through stories and activities for toddlers and preschoolers. Siblings are daycare groups welcome. Ages 2-6.

Programs for Young Children
WonderWorks: Bubble Science
     Thursday, March 22, 10:30-11:30am
Explore topics in science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on play, experimentation, (and books). Ages 3-6. Registration required.

Maker Morning: Tools
     Thursday, March 29, 10:30-11:30am
Create, build, and tinker in a relaxed, exploratory, and playful atmosphere. Ages 3-6.

Programs for School Age Children
Wildlife Drawing
     Wednesday, March 14, 10am-12pm
Learn basic techniques like lines, proportion, shading, and texture to draw Minnesota forest animals like a wolf or rabbit. Presented by Eagan Art House. Ages 6-11. Registration required.

Legos and Duplos
     Thursday, March 15, 10:30-11:30am
Get your kids' imaginations working by exploring the many things they can create with Legos and Duplos. Ages 2-12.

Fairy and Troll Houses
     Saturday, March 17, 10:30am-12pm
Create miniature dwelling places, furniture, and decorative things for fairies, trolls, and other nature spirits out of craft supplies, nature objects, and recycled materials that can withstand some time outdoors. Bring small twigs, acorns, bark, and natural objects gathered from the backyard if you'd like. Presented by Artistry. Ages 5-11.Registration required.
