2023 South St. Paul School District #6 - Special Election

The South St. Paul Public Schools is holding a special School Board election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, to fill the vacancy that resulted from the unexpected passing of Bernie Beermann. The candidate elected on November 7 will fill the remainder of Mr. Beermann’s term that expires January 2027.

  • Filing Period Opens: Tuesday, August 1, 2023
  • Filing Period Closes: Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 5:00 PM
  • Filing Location: SSP City Hall (125 – 3rd Avenue North)
  • Filing Cost: $2

A candidate for this office must be an eligible voter, must be 21 years of age or more on assuming office, must have been a resident of the School District from which the candidate seeks election for thirty (30) days before the special election, and must have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same election.  All forms for filing are  available at City Hall or by following this link:    Campaign Filing Packet  

Filings must be made in person; you cannot mail in a completed form or have another individual submit it for you.

Polling Place for Special Election November 7th, 2023:

There will only be one polling location for this Special Election, all voters in SSD #6 will vote at the Lawshe Museum, located at 130 3rd Avenue North in South St. Paul (across the street from City Hall).  The polls will be open from 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 7th.  Absentee voting will be available via mail or in person at City Hall.  If you have questions please contact Deanna Werner, City Clerk, at 651-554-3204.  

County/State & Federal Elections - 2024

City elections are conducted by the City Clerk’s Office and are held even numbered years in conjunction with county, state, and federal elections on the first Tuesday in November.

Election Dates for 2024

February 27, 2024 - Precinct Caucus dates as set by Minnesota Statutes 202A.14, unless the chairs of the two largest major political parties jointly notify the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State of a different date by March 1 of the preceding year. 

March 5th, 2024 - Presidential Nomination Primary 

August 13, 2024 - Primary Election

November 5, 2024 - General Election
