The Planning Commission is a seven-member citizen commission, appointed by the City Council to four-year terms. The Planning Commission advises the City Council on all planning, zoning, and land uses within the community. Duties of the Planning Commission include the review of all development and redevelopment proposals and the enforcement of the Comprehensive Plan.

Read Across South St. Paul is back for its 18th season. The 2019-2020 Read Across South St. Paul will kick off on Friday, October 4th at Lincoln Center and Kaposia Education.
The first Friday of each month has been designated Read Across South St. Paul in the Elementary Schools. This is a partnership between the City and School District making it truly a community program. Volunteers have the opportunity to read to students at Lincoln Center and/or Kaposia Education Center in a classroom setting. Read Across South St. Paul times are 9:00 at Lincoln Center and 9:30 am at Kaposia Education Center.
Books will be provided each month relating to the theme. Read Across South St. Paul takes about 30 minutes each month and a great way to give back to the community.

On the Road Again is set for Saturday, October 5th along Southview Blvd. It includes over 100 craft vendors, a petting zoo, car show, music, pickle contest, flea market, food vendors, and the best BOOYA around! Come out and enjoy this family-friendly community event.

Dispose of old appliances properly with the help of JR's Advanced Recyclers. Appliances must be in a square (non-compacted) condition and not contain food, debris, or other foreign material which would prevent the recycler from proper removal of hazardous waste and/or refrigerants according to law.
J.R.'s Advanced Recyclers has the right to refuse ANY appliance. If your appliance is of an unusual variety, please inquire with the recycler about its acceptance.
Accepted Appliances: Air conditioners, Dehumidifiers, Dishwashers, Disposals, Dryers, Furnaces, Humidifiers, Microwaves, Refrigerators & Freezers, Stoves, Trash Compactors, Washers, Water Heaters, and Water Softeners.

The SSP Great Hallow-Green Costume Exchange will take place on National Costume Exchange Day, October 12th at the Doug Woog Arena. Bring your “New to You” ticket to trade for a costume. Persons with tickets will have the opportunity to shop first from noon until 1:00 pm. At 1:00, the area will be opened to everyone, with or without a ticket and a donation can be made for the costume. The donations will go to Neighbors, Inc. and remaining costumes will go to Neighbors, Inc. Clothes Closet.

The next Dakota County Fix It Clinic is in South St. Paul on October 19th from noon to 3 pm at Central Square Community Center. Get items fixed or mended for free and learn useful repair skills at an upcoming Fix-It Clinic.
Skilled volunteers help you figure out what's wrong and fix your broken items. Clinics build community and reduce the amount of stuff thrown in the trash.

Get your friends and family together for a family Halloween Skate at the Doug Woog Arena on Sunday, October 27th from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Join the Doug Woog Arena & the SSP Mayor's Youth Task Force for an afternoon of fun. This event is FREE to attend.
There will be fun music, games, a costume contest (for safety reasons, no masks please, face paint is ok) and trick or treating. Skate rental is available for canned food item donations for Neighbors, Inc. (Please note: there is a limited amount of skates available).
New this year, Guess the Weight of the Giant Pumpkins. Bring a can of soup for Neighbors, Inc to guess the weight of 2 super large pumpkins thanks to Neighbors, Inc. The guess closest to the actually weight of each pumpkin (without going over) wins the pumpkin.
