1. Do I need a rental license if I am renting to a family member?

No, if those persons are legally related to each other in a linear relationship such as spouses, grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren and siblings. Family does not include branching relationships such as aunts, uncles or cousins.

2. How long is my rental license valid for?

Rental licenses are good for a period of one year and expire on May 31st of each year.

3. Does my rental property require an inspection?

Yes. All rental properties must be inspected by a licensed Housing Evaluator. Rental inspections are valid for a period of three years. The City will also accept a Time-Of-Sale Inspection report in lieu of a rental inspection but must be dated one year from the date of the rental license application. 4. Can I use a Section 8 Housing Inspection Report for my rental license?

No. You cannot submit a Section 8 Housing Report in lieu of a rental inspection.
